Lovers in Dolores Park
When shooting this project I looked for couples who are already embracing at Dolores Park in San Francisco, and then approached them as I saw them. Maybe they were hugging or resting on each other. Sometimes I noticed what they were wearing or how they looked at each other. And sometimes it was something else— a kind of impulse that’s hard to explain. After 15 years of making images I’ve come to just act on that impulse. I started photographing lovers in Dolores park while thinking about youth and lust and the endless lazy days I remember having when I was 25. I also wanted a way to explore what we look like when we’re connected and in love. I wanted this to be a kind of exercise— a way for me to explore my own creative process around directing and documenting.
