DOCUMENTARY STUDY OF ECONOMY AND VERMONT
The light's different in Vermont than in Berkeley California, or Los Angeles California or even Boston Massachusetts. I want to offer a scientific explanation as to why. Or some Joan Didion observation as to how it appears. What I know is that for me, part of landing back on the East Coast has been re-connecting with the light here, which in many ways is also re-connecting with what it means to be home.
I spent a week in Vermont getting to know the people and places in ten different communities for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The project was very much about Vermont itself and I chose to use only natural light for the work as a way to tell the full story of the place. For each community I photographed I walked around with my camera, meeting people and hearing their stories. In the commercial world we call this "casting." For me it was just getting to know the people I met.
